Midget Series at 25 Entries, Schedule Changes
Within two days of opening registration, 25 drivers have signed up for the Thursday Night Thunder Midget Series. During this time, ASCORS Officials also changed the schedule to eight races, with the season finale at Fairbury being a double header with two 40-lap mains. Officials were stuck in a bind after noticing that a race was scheduled on top of the Tulsa Shootout weekend. With that in mind, the January 2nd race at Volusia was dropped. The move was made to make it easy for anyone that would be attending both the Tulsa Shootout and the Chili Bowl to compete for the Thursday Night Thunder Midget Series championship.
“I’m quite shocked at the entries that we have for the series already. I was expecting 20 at the most and we’re on pace to surpass that by quite a good margin. One thing the iRacing community has lacked is that one solid midget series and I’m pretty hyped up to see that people have decided to trust us at ASCORS to provide that series.” Says league owner JD Laird. “It was also a good thing that we ended up changing the schedule for the long run game as well. Scheduling against the Tulsa Shootout with the quality of field that we would like to see in ASCORS was a complete brain lapse on my part coming up with the schedule. While Volusia would be an interesting race to see it was an easy track to get rid of in the end with the bind we were in for options to fix the situation at hand.”
With the drop of Volusia as Round 3 of the series, the addition of Lernverville Speedway to the iRacing service in the winter build will fill gap of the TBD date as the second to last round of the season. The new track will add a challenge for the drivers before the Fairbury Speedway Finals. Below is the new schedule:
December 12 – Fairbury Speedway (40 Laps) December 19 – The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway (35 Laps) January 9 – Kokomo Speedway (40 Laps) January 30 – Lanier Speedway (40 Laps) February 6 – Knoxville Speedway (30 Laps) February 13 – Limaland Raceway (40 Laps) February 20 – Lernerville Speedway (35 Laps)
February 27 – Fairbury Speedway (2 races, 40 Laps)
