ASCORS Announces 2nd Annual Chili Bowl Nationals
Hawthorne, CA (October 15, 2020) – The American Sim Car Online Racing Series (ASCORS) and its administrative staff would like to announce that we will be hosting the 2nd Annual ASCORS Chili Bowl Nationals in January. The official dates are still pending due to real world events and the effect of the COVID-19 Pandemic but the event should be announced soon.
ASCORS stepped up in late December 2019 to get the ball rolling for a last-minute decision to host their attempt of the Chili Bowl Nationals. 114 people registered for the event with Swindell Speedlab driver, James Edens, claiming victory and the $1,000 winner’s purse in a white-knuckle battle over Dylan Wilson. Last year’s event paid out over $5,000 in total purse and the high praise of the event from the competing drivers planted the seed for a potential 2021 event.
“In the racing world, if you can make 50% of the people happy as a race official then you accomplished something. After the pixelated dust settled from the main event the figurative positive comments feedback that we received was overwhelming,” said ASCORS owner and lead admin, JD Laird. “There were a lot of people and sponsors like, Swindell Speedlab and Jake Swanson Shock Technology, that jumped on the opportunity to be a part of the event with such short notice and to produce an event that grabbed that much attention and praise proved to me that we could do it again with more than two weeks of planning.”
ASCORS plans to expand the events that go on during the week of the Chili Bowl to have a couple special events. One special event planned is a copy of the Race of Champions with a “Spirit of SimPro” race to pay respect to the past racers of SimPro for a little bit of a brawl during one of the qualifying nights. Another is to be announced at a later date.
"Most of the feedback that we received from the 2020 ASCORS Chili Bowl Nationals was very positive in many ways which is what makes JD and I really excited to continue it on for a second consecutive year." said ASCORS admin, Michael Fenlason. "For the short time we had last year to put this event together, it produced some great racing and an awesome A-Main to decide the $1000 grand prize winner. I personally can't wait to see what this year produces."
